Trustee with Commercial Property and Lettings Experience
Location: Virtual / Edinburgh
Time commitment: Around 2 to 4 hours per month
Remuneration: Voluntary, with travel expenses reimbursed
Upmo is seeking to appoint a new trustee with experience in commercial property, lettings, estates, property strategy or lease negotiations.
Upmo is an Edinburgh-based charity supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism. For more than a decade, the charity has combined tailored support services with a respected programme of creative workshops, educational activities and vocational opportunities. Upmo currently works with around 170 students across Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian.
The charity is looking for someone who can bring insight and guidance around commercial property and lettings. One of Upmo’s key strategic risks is the potential that its two main locations, both of which are commercial lets, could become unavailable or prohibitively expensive. A trustee with experience of planning, negotiating and securing commercial property lets would be a valuable addition to the Board.
As a trustee, you will work alongside fellow Board members and the Chief Executive to support the future direction, sustainability and governance of the charity. Trustees are responsible for ensuring that Upmo remains focused on its purpose and continues to deliver meaningful opportunities for the people it supports.
The Board is particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Commercial property
- Commercial lettings
- Lease negotiation
- Property strategy
- Facilities, estates or premises management
- Risk management linked to property or operational continuity
Previous trustee experience is not essential. More important is a genuine interest in Upmo’s work, sound judgement, and a willingness to contribute constructively as part of a collaborative Board.
Trustees are expected to contribute to areas including strategic planning, financial oversight, business continuity and risk, governance, stakeholder relationships, and the promotion of Upmo’s work.
Board meetings are held four times per year, with every second meeting held in person in the Edinburgh area. Trustees should also allow time to read papers and prepare for meetings, with the overall commitment usually no more than 2 to 4 hours per month.
This is a rewarding opportunity to use your professional experience to support a charity making a real difference in the lives of adults with learning disabilities and autism.
